Beside the exhibition of naïve art, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the collection of rare plants from throughout the world, placed in the originally designed complex of the Glasshouse, which will be made open for public for the first time. Thus, lovers of art will also be able to enjoy the harmonious symbiosis of art and nature.
Naïve art is one of the most authentic and most original artforms in our country. It presents the picturesque echo of our tradition, customs, and spirituality. As an important part of cultural heritage, this artform has been preserved in its original shape till the present day. Last December, the naïve art of Kovačica was included in the UNESCO list of world heritage as intangible cultural heritage of the humankind.
Visitors have the opportunity to see an impressive set of paintings on different topics which comprise art of our self-taught naïve artists. Even though without formal academic education, naïve artists are very skillful in expressing sincere emotions, instinctive talent, and rare ability through their paintings, so that this artform has maintained its simplicity and spontaneity, while the narrative of their artwork relies on everyday life scenes, beauty of the nature, national customs, folklore, etc. Transforming their art into vivid pictures of idyllic village life, the artists use their singular artistic expression to reach the dimension of the universal and the extratemporal. Their paintings, frequently in oil and acrylic, are specific for their variegated spectrum of colours, flat perspective, and posture of figures presented with naivety of a child.
We kindly ask you to announce your arrival at the exhibition.
