In the end of 20 century, furniture was frequently of simple design, with straight lines, and almost without any decorations. Structural elements such as steel pipes were usually left visible. Designers used various materials available at local markets, for instance, wood in natural colors, metal, glass, and durable covers. The period is marked with modernistic furniture, with comfort and functionality frequently understood as priority, while ornaments were deemed unnecessary. Furniture was also conceived as affordable and easy to manufacture. Minimalistic approach to design was especially accentuated in the 1990s, unlike the previous several decades when striking colors prevailed. Nowadays, however, soft and light designs are more favourable, same as subtle and neutral pastel colors. Simple geometric forms experienced revival, same as the Scandinavian style.
